Nan Goldin- photographer

"My work originally came from the snapshot aesthetic . . . Snapshots are taken out of love and to remember people, places, and shared times. They're about creating a history by recording a history."

As a young girl of 14, Goldin went through a very traumatic time where her sister commited suicide. This led her to turn to her friends and in them she created an alternative family. As years went by and the memory of her sister faded, she began to take photographs of her friends to capture the present.

I really love these photos because of how they really effectivally capture the moment as if its a memory of a fond time your looking back on. The subjects seem like they are good friends or family and the lighting really comunicates a walm or natural scene.
